Why study Sport?
These qualifications are intended to provide pupils with a broad introduction to the sport, fitness and active leisure sector. Equipping the pupils with underpinning knowledge and skills specific to the sector alongside a range of transferable employability skills as well as Bitesize English and Maths units.
They are designed to support progression to further learning and ultimately to work in sport, fitness and active leisure or other related sectors. The employability skills and bitesize English and Maths units are common across several qualifications. Enabling an easy transfer of credits between qualifications and supporting opportunities for cross-faculty working.

The sport units within the qualification s aim to provide pupils with the skills needed to gain knowledge of the Sport and Leisure industry whilst being able to learn practical skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst learning and building new skills and developing social skills and gaining life skills.
Depending upon the level, units taught consist of:
- Taking part in Exercise and Fitness.
- Working in Sport and Active Leisure.
- Assist a Fitness Instructor.
- Assisting a Leader of Sports or Active Leisure Activities to Plan and Deliver an Activity.
- Components and Functions of the Body in Physical Activity.
- Exercise as Part of a Healthy Lifestyle.
- Planning own Fitness Programme.
- Working with Customers and Clients in Sports and Active Leisure Settings.
